Motorcycles, live music, food and giveaways are all part of the plan as Classy Chassis Motorcycles prepares to celebrate a major milestone this weekend in Lakefield.

The business is marking its 20th anniversary with a special BBQ party on May 30 at its location on 8th Line, inviting the community to join in a day packed with activities and entertainment.

Organizers are promising plenty of food options throughout the event, including Dr J's BBQ & Brews, Two Fat Greeks and Mini Doughnuts & More.

Live music will also be part of the celebration with performances from The High Energy Electric Blues Review.

Motorcycle enthusiasts can also take advantage of free installs and product demonstrations featuring Legend Suspension, HogTunes and Wild Boar Audio. Guests will also have the opportunity to book a run on the dyno to see what their bike can do.

Lift Lock Tunnel to Temporary Close On Monday For Embankment Work

Parks Canada is temporarily closing the Lift Lock Tunnel on Hunter Street East in Peterborough to allow for work on the embankment, immediately east of the tunnel on Monday.

The Tunnel will be closed to vehicular traffic from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Monday.

A signed detour route will be in place. Traffic control personnel will be on-site to assist with the movement of emergency services vehicles, transit buses, and heavy trucks. Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to plan their travel accordingly.

City of Peterborough Requests Residents to Confirm School Support Designation by June 1

The City of Peterborough is asking residents to review or update their school support designation through the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) by June 1 to ensure their information is accurate for the 2026 municipal and school board elections.

The designation determines which school board trustee candidates appear on a voter’s ballot. In Peterborough, voters can support trustees for the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, the Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board, or Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir. 

If no designation is selected, school support defaults to the English public system. The designation does not affect property taxes but is used to determine school board representation during municipal elections. It applies to both property owners and tenants, regardless of whether they have children enrolled in school. 

Voter information maintained by Elections Ontario, along with school support data from MPAC, is used to help compile the preliminary list of electors for municipal and school board elections. 

Residents can update their designation online or download the Application for Direction of School Support form through MPAC at mpac.ca. 

Information about the 2026 municipal election, including candidate nominations, voter eligibility and key dates, is available at peterboroughvotes.ca. The 2026 municipal election will be held on Oct. 26.

Peterborough Police Mark Sudden Death Near Downtown As Not Suspicious

The Peterborough Police have determined that a sudden death occurring in the George Street North and Townsend Street area is not suspicious.

There was police activity in the area on Wednesday morning for an investigation.

Since being marked not suspicious, the individual’s death becomes a Coroner’s Investigation.

The deceased’s identity has not been released at this time.

Peterborough Woman Arrested For Public Intoxication and Spitting On Several People

A 35-year-old Peterborough woman is facing several charges, including public intoxication and spitting on multiple people, after an incident at Millennium Park on Tuesday night.

At roughly 9:30 p.m., officers were called to the park about a woman yelling and spitting on another woman. They located a woman matching the description given to the police, took her into custody and the suspect spat at the officer.

The woman was arrested and charged with:

• Assault

• Assault a Peace Officer

• Breach of Recognizance

• Being intoxicated in public place (Liquor Licence Control Act)

The accused is currently bound by a recognizance with the following condition: to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

They are being held in custody and appeared in court on Wednesday.

City of Peterborough Prohibiting Smoking In Outdoor Recreation Spaces

Smoking and vaping are prohibited in all City of Peterborough parks, sports fields, playgrounds, wading pools, splashpads and beaches except in designated smoking areas.

Smoking is prohibited in these areas under the Smoke-Free Ontario Act and the Peterborough Smoking By-law.

Anyone smoking outside a designated smoking area could be subject to a penalty of $305.

The Amazing Race Canada Spotted Filming in Peterborough Ahead of New Season

Fans of The Amazing Race Canada will have a local connection to watch for this summer after production crews and racers were spotted filming in Peterborough during work on the show's upcoming season.

While racers were first seen at Toronto Pearson Airport and Union Station in Toronto on May 1, production later made its way to Peterborough, where locals reported seeing crews at several recognizable spots across the city.

Among the locations mentioned were Peterborough City Hall, Rogers Cove, Canadian Canoe Museum, Crary Park and Beavermead Park. The reported filming locations sparked plenty of curiosity around town as residents tried to piece together what challenges racers may have been taking on.

Production has also reportedly been seen in other parts of Canada, including a Viking-themed challenge in Gimli.

Season 12 of The Amazing Race Canada is scheduled to premiere on CTV and Crave this summer. Olympic gold medallist Jon Montgomery is returning as host for the new season and will once again guide a fresh group of competitors through the race.

Steve Terry Classic Seeking Community Support Ahead of Inaugural Tournament

With less than two months to go until the first-ever Steve Terry Classic, organizers are turning to the community for help as fundraising efforts ramp up ahead of the event.

The inaugural tournament is set to support local youth mental health initiatives through the PRHC Foundation and organizers are now looking to build momentum around one of the event’s key fundraising pieces.

Plans are in place for a silent auction on Saturday, July 25 at Bowers Park, which will serve as the tournament’s main hub.

To help make the auction a success, the Peterborough Baseball Association is asking local businesses, organizations and community members to consider donating items that can be included in the fundraiser.

Organizers say donations of auction items will play an important role in helping support the tournament’s fundraising goals while contributing to youth mental health initiatives locally.

Anyone interested in donating an item or learning more about the silent auction is encouraged to reach out to organizers directly at steveterryclassic@gmail.com.

With the countdown continuing toward the Steve Terry Classic, organizers hope the community will once again step up in support of a cause that extends beyond the baseball diamond.

YWCA's Walk a Mile In Their Shoes Event Raises Over $38,000 to Support Those Who Experienced Gender-Based Violence

To maintain support for victims of gender-based violence, the YWCA’s Walk a Mile in Their Shoes event raised $38,341.71.

“This is more than we ever could have hoped for and we are beyond grateful to all who helped make this possible,” said Sarah Perkins, YWCA philanthropy communications coordinator.

Groups or individuals could sign up and raise funds for the YWCA prior to the march. The funding supports the YWCA’s Journey of Care which covers its signature programs and services offered.

“(It covers) The shelter —which is open 24 hours a day, — supportive counselling, transitional housing support, our family court support program and a hub on Mondays that a lot of organizations participate in,” said Kim Dolan, YWCA executive director.

Roughly 70 people joined in the downtown march on Friday afternoon. It started at Confederation Square and circuited back after turning onto King and Water Street.

Paws for a Cause as LAWS Doggie Dash Returns to Lakefield June 14

Dogs, walkers and animal lovers will take over Lakefield next month as the LAWS Doggie Dash returns to raise funds for animals in need.

The Lakefield Animal Welfare Society (LAWS) is gearing up for the third annual Doggie Dash on Sunday, June 14 at Isabel Morris Park, bringing together community members and their four-legged companions for a day of fundraising and family fun.

The event supports the rescue, rehabilitation, medical care and adoption efforts carried out by LAWS, which operates as a non-profit animal shelter without government funding. Organizers say community events like Doggie Dash play an important role in helping continue care for local animals.

Participants can register individually or as teams and are asked to raise a minimum of $100. Each participant will receive a personalized fundraising page to collect donations. Organizers also note that people without dogs are encouraged to take part.

Walkers can choose between 1.5-kilometre and 2.5-kilometre routes through Lakefield, with local performers Betty Baker and Washboard Hank leading the way. Registration begins at noon, opening remarks start at 12:30 pm and the walk gets underway at 1 pm.

The event continues after the walk with an afternoon of activities at Isabel Morris Park. Live music from Caitlin O’Connor and The Detention Club is planned alongside food vendors including The Vine and Ghost Taco, family games, artisans and community vendors.

Visitors will also have a chance to bid on silent auction items donated by local businesses and supporters, with prizes including Blue Jays tickets, a round of golf at Wildfire Golf Club, gift certificates, camping gear and more.

Organizers say the event is designed to bring the community together while helping ensure LAWS can continue responding to the growing need for animal support across the region.

Participants can register through the Lakefield Animal Welfare Society website.
