The Trees 4 Peterborough Community Tree Planting Event is taking place Saturday, September 26th at Heritage Park, where volunteers will work together to expand the city’s urban forest along Riverview Creek.

The planting gets underway at 10am at 560 Settlers Ridge, with volunteers from across the community invited to take part.

The goal is to create a more continuous stretch of tree cover along the creek while adding more native trees to the park. The project is part of the broader Trees 4 Peterborough initiative, which brings together community groups, local organizations and residents to help grow Peterborough’s urban forest.

There’s still time to register if you’d like to be part of the planting. Registration is available through peterborough.ca/trees.

This particular event is being supported through a partnership with Peterborough GreenUP, along with donations from RBC Wealth Management, The Excelsior Group and Fairlife. East Side Mario’s and Merrett Home Hardware are also contributing to the event through in-kind support.

Whether you’re an experienced gardener or simply looking for a way to spend part of the morning helping out in the community, the September 26th event offers a hands-on way to contribute to a greener Peterborough.

Peterborough residents are being invited to help grow the city's urban forest by planting approximately 500 native trees during this year's Trees 4 Peterborough Community Tree Planting Event.

The annual event takes place on Saturday, September 26th, beginning at 10am at Heritage Park, located at 560 Settlers Ridge.

Volunteers will help plant native trees along Riverview Creek, expanding tree cover in the park while supporting Peterborough's ongoing efforts to create a healthier and greener urban forest.

Trees 4 Peterborough is a community initiative that brings together residents, local organizations and businesses to plant trees in parks and public spaces across the city.

The event is being coordinated by Peterborough GreenUP with support from RBC Wealth Management. Additional support is being provided by The Excelsior Group, East Side Mario's and Merrett Home Hardware.

Residents of all ages are encouraged to take part. Anyone interested in volunteering can register in advance through the City of Peterborough's website.

The community tree planting event will take place rain or shine.

Heritage Park Officially Opens to the Public In Peterborough's North End

The City of Peterborough and its families rejoiced as they celebrated the official opening of Heritage Park on Thursday at 560 Settlers Ridge on Thursday afternoon.

The park is located at 560 Settlers Ridge and includes a playground with swings, a basketball half-court, seating areas, a walking trail and asphalt walkways. 

“Neighbourhood parks contribute to healthy, thriving neighbourhoods. The opening of this park will help meet the recreational and wellbeing needs of the people in the community,” said Councillor Dave Haacke.

The project was supported through the City’s Parkland Development Assistance Program, Tollington Fund and Accessibility Fund according to the City of Peterborough.

“The new playground equipment, basketball half court and accessible features throughout the park will ensure that families will continue to enjoy the park for years to come,” said Councillor Andrew Beamer."

“Park by park, we are working to improve outdoor spaces for Peterborough residents of all ages,” said Councillor Lesley Parnell. “Having good park amenities enhances the quality of life for everyone from babies in strollers, to school-aged kids, right through to seniors.”
