Empty Bowls Community Fundraising Event Celebrates 22nd Year

Attendees filled their bowls and their stomachs at the Showplace Performance Centre Friday for Empty Bowls 2026; a fundraising event aimed to address hunger in the local community, with all proceeds supporting One City Peterborough.

After 21 years of Empty Bowls supporting the YWCA Nourish Food Program, which ended in 2025, One City Peterborough has partnered as the new beneficiary for the fundraiser. All proceeds will support One City’s daily meal program at Trinity Community Centre.

180 event attendees received a handmade artisanal bowl from Kawartha Potters Guild, opportunity to participate in the silent auction and an array of food options from local restaurants and vendors including:

  • St. Veronus

  • The Vine

  • La Mesita Restaurante

  • Hard Winter Bakery

  • By the Bridge

  • The Food Shop

  • Sam's Place

  • Love You Mean It

  • Ashburnham Ale House

  • Silver Bean Cafe

“It’s really exciting that so many people wanted to participate in this event,” said One City’s Mackenzie Clark-Smith. “So many community members have told me they’ve been coming to this for 10 years, and others have said that this is their first time. It is very exciting that people who have liked the event in the past and those who are newcomers are all here supporting.”

The YWCA hosted the 2025 edition of its Empty Bowls Fundraiser that aids food insecurity in our communities at The Venue on Friday afternoon.

Proceeds from the fundraiser were split between One City’s food programming and Kawartha Food Share.

Roughly 140 participants ate lunch from 11 restaurants while shopping for hand-crafted bowls created by local artisans of the Kawartha Potters Guild.

The following were participating local restaurants that served food at the event:

Kawartha Potters Guild Presents Celebrate Ceramics Fundraiser

Kawartha Potters Guild will be hosting ‘Celebrate Ceramics’, a fundraiser to support their not-for-profit pottery guild and art community on April 8.

Tickets are $75 and available at Kawartha Potters Guild at 993 Talwood Dr.

Attendees at the fundraiser will be entered into a draw. When their number is called they will be able to chose a piece of donated pottery to take home.

Guests can also enjoy live music, complimentary food and a glass of wine.

Those that purchase a $75 ticket can bring a friend for an extra $25, though they will not be eligible to bring home a piece of pottery.

Pottery that has been donated to the fundraiser is currently on display at the Kawartha Potters Guild. Pieces can be viewed Tues – Fri: 1-5 p.m. or by appointment with Donna O'Brien, administrator@kawarthapottersguild.com.

The event will be hosted April 8, 7-9 p.m. at the Lions Club, 347 Burnham St.

This weekend marked the grand opening of the Kawartha Potters Guild new permanent location at 993 Talwood Drive. The 4,000 square foot space offers studio space for rent, a variety of classes and an upcoming Summer Day Camp (starting July 8th).

The Mayor himself showed up for a ribbon cutting ceremony and a chance to make his own plate out of clay. He surprised everyone when he turned his ordinary bowl into a pie plate, which will be auctioned off at the YWCA Empty Bowls event on June 21st. Drop on in to see and purchase work from local potters, or consider attending a class.

Kawartha Potters' Guild 2012 Christmas Sale At The Lions Community Centre

The Kawartha Potters' Guild are having their 2012 Christmas sale at The Lions Community Centre (347 Burnham St.) this weekend. Drop in to see some of the region's best potters and clay artists. There will be demonstrations, a door prize and free admission.

  • Friday, November 30th – 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Saturday, December 1st – 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, December 2nd – 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
