The win was from the Sept. 30 draw that was purchased in Lindsay at Petro Canada Gas and Convenience on Highway 35 North.

“I stopped at the store to run a quick errand and ended up purchasing this ticket,” explained Aucoin. “I heard the winning jingle and saw the amount – I had to do a double take and count the zeroes!”

His wife didn’t believe the win when Aucoin mentioned it to her.

“I scanned it in front of her. My hands were shaking. We were both in disbelief,” he said. “Then we went to the store to make sure it was real.”

The 47-year-old skilled trade worker plans to use his winnings towards his mortgage and is considering a family trip.

The married couple of 45 years discovered their win while watching the news.

“We only play Lotto 6/49,” said Gary while collecting the winnings. “This is our first big win.”

He purchased his lottery ticket at Tom’s Variety on Kent Street in Lindsay after seeing an advertisement for the jackpot.

“I was watching the news and saw that someone in our community had a winning ticket,” explained Gary. “I was at home when I compared our numbers to the winning numbers on OLG.ca and noticed they matched. I can’t even tell you how many times we looked at this ticket and thought something must be wrong.”

Karry called her daughter immediately after discovering the couple’s win.

“We called our daughter right away. She could tell by my voice that something was up,” exclaimed Karry. “She was just as shocked as we were.”

The couple said winning the lottery was a surreal moment and still in disbelief.

“It’s still hard to imagine this is where we are,” said Gary.

“We’re just regular Kraft dinner and fried bologna people,” laughed Karry.

Kroll purchased the ticket at Shell on Lindsay Street in Lindsay, and asked the clerk to pick the ticket for him.

“I was watching TV while playing my tickets with my lucky dime when I realized I won,” said Kroll. “My heart stopped, and mind started racing. I thought this couldn’t be real, and checked my ticket using the OLG App about 30 times.”

The avid fisherman and outdoor enthusiast says when he called his sister to tell her the news he had a hard time getting the words out.

“She had to ask me, ‘What are you saying?’”

Kroll said he plans to use his winnings to pay bills and get a place of his own.

“I am dumbfounded-it hasn’t really sunk in yet. I feel like I’m in a daze,” he said.

Olivia Apps started playing rugby in grade 10 while attending I.E Weldon. Now, five years later, the 22-year-old will take to the world stage and represent Canada on the 13-player rugby sevens team.

Since her start in the sport, rugby has taken Apps to places like Australia, Japan and Dubai - though she is proud of her rural roots.

“What’s really important to me is to grow the sport in Lindsay and promote younger girls to stay involved in athletics,” she said. “You know what, you don’t have to be from a big city where sports teams are really good and really competitive. All that stuff doesn’t matter as much as work ethic and believing in yourself.”

While training in Lindsay, Apps shared a strength and conditioning coach with Emma Wright and remembers hoping to be able to watch her compete at the Olympics one day.

Sisters Emma and Claire Wright are representing Canada on the women’s water polo team.

“We both play different positions, so it was a different fight for us to be on this team,” said Claire. “Staying our course, we both got to this point and it’s unreal.”

Claire is a goaltender and says she thinks she can hear Emma cheer extra loud when she makes a save though both players say they cheer on their teammates just the same.

“We’re a big family in the water,“ said Emma. “Outside the water it’s like I have my sister here and it’s amazing but in the water she’s my teammate and we’re both there to do a job.”

The women’s water polo team plays their first game on Saturday, July 24.

Women’s rugby starts on Thursday, July 29.

After close to eight years of operation, the volunteer run Youngtown Rock and Roll Museum closed its doors in Omemee on September 27th, 2014 due to time commitments and costs of operation. (Omemee was one of the places Neil Young spent his formative years, and is the inspiration for many of his songs.)

The good news is a smaller commemorative exhibit from the museum has now opened in nearby Lindsay at The Olde Gaol Museum.

Called The New Youngtown Museum Exhibit, it showcases a number of select artifacts and memorabilia that have been enjoyed by thousands of visitors to their former Omemee location.

**For more information and hours of operation, visit the Olde Gaol Museum website or check out the Youngtown Museum Exhibit Facebook page.
