Peterborough Petes Name Boston Pizza As Official Road Game Watch Party Location for 2025-26

The Peterborough Petes have named Boston Pizza as the Official Road Game Watch Party location for all of the team’s away games for the 2025-26 season.

Both Boston Pizza locations at 1164 Chemong Rd and 821 Rye St are hosting watch parties on various nights, covering every Petes road game throughout the 2025-26 season.

Watch parties feature door prizes and giveaways, including signed memorabilia by the Petes players. There will also be visits from the team mascot, Roger, throughout the season.

The first Watch Party is Saturday at the Chemong Road location, when the Petes take on the Brantford Bulldogs at the TD Civic Centre at 7 p.m.

Matthew Soto's Four-Point Night Propels Peterborough Petes to Home Opener Victory Over Brampton Steelheads

Matthew Soto’s hot start and four points helped the Peterborough Petes start the regular season on the right foot as they won their home opener, 6-3, against the Brampton Steelheads at the Peterborough Memorial Centre on Thursday night.

Soto started the scoring after getting a centreing pass from Leon Kolarik and then ripped it past former Petes goaltender Zach Bowen for 1-0 lead. The Petes quickly lost the lead as Keaton Ardaugh scored just under three minutes later on the power play then Brampton tacked on another goal thanks to Julian Demiglio just 90 seconds later. The Petes showed off their power play prowess as Adam Levac faked a shot then quickly dished it to Kolarik for the tip-in goal to tie it at two apiece headed into the second period. Soto had the secondary assist.

Colin Fitzgerald, Peterborough’s 2024 first-round OHL priority selection pick made his presence felt to kick off the stanza. He won a faceoff on the power play and saw the puck get cycled back to him. He wristed it past Bowen and Peterborough regained the lead, 3-2, as the period’s only goal. Soto earned his third point with another secondary assist.

David Green tied the game, 4:33 into the third period but that was as far as Brampton got. Peterborough and Soto held the zone that fed the puck to Brennan Faulkner. He took a wide-angle from just inside the faceoff circle and scored to pull ahead, 4-3. Just as Brampton’s power play was about to finish, Francis Parish forced a turnover in the offensive zone and slipped it past Bowen for the insurance marker and a 5-3 lead. Faulkner added an empty-net goal and the Petes were successful in their home opener with a 6-4 win.

The Petes have their first road game of the season to take on the Brantford Bulldogs this Saturday at the TD Civic Centre at 7 p.m.

Trent Excalibur Men's Soccer Looking to Maintain Hot Start With Friday's Matchup Vs. Queen's University

The Trent Excalibur men’s soccer team is trying to stay hot as they take Queen’s University at the Justin Chiu Stadium on Friday at 6 p.m.

The Excalibur are off to one of their best starts to a season with a 3-1 record, earning wins over Nipissing, Ontario Tech and RMC but falling to Toronto Metropolitan.

“Our men’s soccer program has embraced a transformative mindset this year,” says Grant Purdy, Excalibur head coach. “From day one, the players have bought into a growth philosophy, focusing on accountability and team confidence. We’ve taken it one match at a time, and the results speak for themselves. Friday will be another big test in front of our home crowd.” 

Trent sits fourth in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) East standings; however, they have a game in hand over all teams ahead of them. Queen’s has also played an extra match and is nipping at Excalibur’s heels in fifth place with a 2-1-2 record.

Two offensive players have had standout performances in Excalibur history as well as in provincial and national standings. This includes third-year Forensic Science student-athlete Leo Frans (Champlain College) and rookie Jon Moncada (Lady Eaton College), a Business Administration student.

Frans is one goal away from tying the all-time Excalibur scoring record with 14. Moncada leads the team with six goals this season, which ties him for the league lead with Niklas Hallam of Toronto Metropolitan. One more goal would see Moncada match Frans’ record for most goals in a debut season.  

“There’s a real buzz at Trent right now. Our Excalibur teams are off to a great start and competing with the best in the OUA,” said Nathan McFadden, director of Athletics and Recreation. “The men’s soccer program has shown incredible growth and is poised to make a strong run for OUA playoffs. Friday’s home game is a chance for our community to come together and support them as they chase history.”

Peterborough Petes Holding Season Ticket Member BBQ On Tuesday

Season ticket holders can have some fun before the regular season as the team is holding their Peterborough Petes Season Ticket Member BBQ at the Peterborough Memorial Centre (PMC) on Tuesday from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

This year’s BBQ will feature food catered by Chemong Lodge, refreshments, and inflatables from Castle Kid. The event will also feature introductions to the 2025-26 Peterborough Petes roster, including a full-team autograph session as well as speeches from coaches and management.

“We’re very excited to announce that we will once again be hosting the Season Ticket Member BBQ here at the PMC,” said Tyler Hall, Petes Coordinator of Season Ticket Sales and Service. “The BBQ is always a great opening to the year, and we’re looking forward to welcoming back our Season Ticket Members as we get ready to open the 2025-26 season on the 18th.”

Only Season Ticket Members (including corporate partners and suite holders) are invited to attend the exclusive event along with their families.

Attendees are asked to enter the BBQ through the main entrance of the PMC (north side).

Peterborough Petes End Preseason With Shootout Win Over Sarnia

The Peterborough Petes finish their preseason on a good note as they got a shootout win over the Sarnia Sting, 6-5, at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena on Friday.

Colin Fitzgerald led Peterborough with one goal and two assists for three points. He also scored in the shootout.

Adam Novotný and Gerry DiCunzolo scored their first goals as a Pete. Caden Taylor scored his third goal in two preseason games and racked up an assist.

Braydon McCallum and Matthew Perreault had two assists in the game. Yanis Lutz had an assist, his fourth in the preseason.

Easton Rye stopped 29 of 34 shots and four of six in the shootout.

The Petes are hosting their Season Ticket Member Barbecue on Tuesday.

The regular season begins Thursday with the Petes’s home opener against the Brampton Steelheads at 7:05 p.m. at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.

Peterborough Lakers Fundraising Campaign Gets $15,484.50 For PRHC Foundation

Through a partnership established in May, the Peterborough Lakers have raised $15,484.50 for the Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) Foundation in a cheque presentation held at the Peterborough Memorial Centre on Friday afternoon.

The campaign encompasses the technology and equipment used in the hospital, according to Lesley Heighway, PRHC Foundation president and CEO.

“The whole $70 million campaign is about equipment and technology,” she said. “There's a number of a different priorities within our campaign but every dollar raised is going toward the campaign.”

Throughout the MSL season, the Lakers sold limited-edition Lakers merchandise, held auctions and held a special PRHC Family Night on June 26 to help raise money.

“There's a saying, ‘The best hospital exists in the most generous communities,’ and that's absolutely true,” explained Heighway. “We're very fortunate to have a very generous community stepping behind this campaign and really helping propel care forward for decades to come.”

In addition to the $15,484.50, Kawartha Smart Homes surprised the PRHC foundation with a $1,300 donation, five dollars for every goal scored by the Lakers this season.

Peterborough Petes Close Out Final Home Preseason Game With 3-2 Loss to the Kingston Frontenacs

In their final home preseason game, the Peterborough Petes lost a close game, 3-2, to the Kingston Frontenacs at the Asphodel-Norwood Community Centre on Sunday.

The game was a fundraiser for Norwood Minor Hockey and included a raffle, Chuck-A-Puck and a post-game autograph session with the Petes players.

Leon Kolarik scored his third goal of the preseason, while Kaden McGregor scored his first as a Pete (but did score a shootout goal againstt Erie on Aug. 30). Yanis Lutz picked up his third assist in as many games, as Thanasi Marentette and Francis Parish had an assist each. Dylan Lee-Stack started the game, stopping 16/18, before Masen Johnston took over for the second half, stopping 12/13. 

After the game, the team has reassigned the following players:

• Sebastian Dzieciol

• Joseph Cadorin

• Jonny Brooks

“As we move closer to the season, we’ve been forced to make some more very difficult decisions,” said Michael Oke, general manager and vice president of operations. “These players all had a solid camp and we will continue to monitor their development and progress for future opportunities with the Peterborough Petes.”

Four Peterborough Lakers Drafted to National Lacrosse League

Four Peterborough Century 21 Lakers were drafted into the National Lacrosse League on Saturday.

Braedon Saris, Ben Trumble, Adam Thistlethwaite and Owen Hiltz all heard their name called during the six-round draft.

Hiltz led the pack with his third overall selection to the Toronto Rock. The Colorado Mammoth drafted Saris at number five, the Georgia Swarm took Trumble at number seven and Thistlethwaite went in the second round at 24th overall to the Rochester Knighthawks.

Saris was acquired from Cobourg in mid-June in exchange for Tommy Collins and Brampton’s third-round draft pick in 2026.

“Braedon just got better and better every time he stepped on the floor and I think he looked more confident every time he stepped on the floor with us,” said Lakers head coach Mike Hasen. “When he came in here this year he might have been a little bit in awe of the group he was playing with, but he took over and led us through that playoff stretch, doing great things.”

Trumble and Thistlethwaite are graduates of the Jr. A Lakers program. Trumble joins Carter Page and former Laker Jordan MacIntosh on the Swarm. Thistlethwaite will continue to play for Lakers head coach Mike Hasen, who also coaches the Knighthawks containing Mitch Ogilvie, Matt Gilray, Turner Evans, Austin Hasen and Brad McCulley.

“I’m just glad to be picked. I’m really excited for this opportunity; I think it’ll be a good one,” said Trumble. “I’m starting to reach out to the guys on the (Swarm). I can’t wait to get going.”

Hiltz spent the 2025 season with the PLL’s Carolina Chaos instead of playing box lacrosse in the MSL. In his rookie season with the Lakers in 2024 he scored 57 points in 24 games.

Two current Jr. A Lakers were also drafted, with OJLL Goalie of the Year Waukiigan Shognosh taken 14th overall by the Buffalo Bandits and forward Curtis Ward was picked in the fifth round, 62nd overall by the Las Vegas Desert Dogs.

NLL Faceoff Weekend is scheduled for Nov. 28 and 29.
