Two People Charged With Drug Possession Following An Impaired Driving Call

Two people are facing drug charges after a possible impaired driving call early Monday morning.

At roughly 6:45 a.m., officers received calls regarding a possible impaired driver.  Police arrived at the underground parking lot in the Sheridan Street and Hunter Street area and located a man and a woman in a vehicle. While there were no signs of impairment with the driver, the officer noticed drug paraphernalia. 

During a search of the man after arrest, officers seized:

• 13.7grams of Fentanyl

• 3 Fentanyl tablets

• Cell phone

• Canadian currency

• Scale

A 56-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

• Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking-Opioid (other than heroin)

• Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Opioid (other than heroin)

• Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000 - in Canada

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court on Monday.

A 24-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested and charged with:

• Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Opioid (other than heroin)

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 20.

Two Impaired Driving Arrests Made During Festive RIDE Checks

Peterborough Police Service have made two impaired driving arrests during their Festive RIDE checks this weekend.

There was an arrest for impaired driving each night.

At roughly 10:15 p.m. on Friday, a vehicle was stopped at a RIDE check on Lansdowne Street between River Road and Ashburnham Drive.

A 39-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

• Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

The accused was issued a 90-day automatic license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

A small child was in the vehicle at the time.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 13.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, a vehicle was stopped at a RIDE check on Hunter Street between Sheridan Street and Burnham Street.

A 41-year-old Peterborough woman was arrested and charged with:

• Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

• Driver fail to surrender license (Highway Traffic Act)

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 20.

Peterborough Man Faces Stunt Driving Charges After Going 97 Km/H In a 50 Zone

A 27-year-old Peterborough man is facing stunt driving charges after going 97 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone on Friday morning.

At roughly 8:30 a.m., an officer in the area of Brealey Drive and Sherbrooke Street clocked going 47 km/h over the speed limit of 50.

The officer conducted the traffic stop and the driver was charged under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) with:

• Stunt Driving (Highway Traffic Act)

• Speeding (Highway Traffic Act)

The driver was issued a 30-day licence suspension and a 14-day vehicle impoundment.

The driver is scheduled to attend court in February.

Young Teen Charged With Stunt Driving After Going 122 Km/H In 60 Zone

A 17-year-old male driver is facing a stunt driving charge after going 122km/hr in a 60 km/hr zone on Wednesday morning.

At roughly 10:15 a.m., an officer on general patrol in the area of Water Street and Carnegie Avenue clocked the vehicle speeding.

The officer conducted a traffic stop on the teen.

He was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with:

• Stunt Driving

• Speeding

• Failure to surrender driver’s license

The driver was issued a 30-day license suspension and a 14-day vehicle impoundment.

The driver is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 23.

Clarington Councillor Arrested and Charged With Uttering Threats

41-year-old Corinna Traill of Clarington is facing two charges after a three-month investigation by the Peterborough Police Service.

In early September, Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) asked the Peterborough Police Service to investigate a Clarington councillor, a former DRPS police officer and a current DRPS member.

The investigation concerned communications made to a potential mayoral candidate for the Municipality of Clarington.

Traill of Clarington was arrested on Wednesday, and charged with:

• Utter Threats x2

The accused was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 13.

Police are not releasing any further information as the matter is currently before the courts.

Peterborough Police Seeking Break-and-Enter Suspect Attempting to Access a Downtown Restaurant

The Peterborough Police Service is asking for the public’s help in identifying an individual attempting to break into a downtown restaurant last week.

A second individual is watching the suspect and is currently considered a person of interest.

At roughly 2 p.m. last Tuesday, a business owner called police about an incident that occurred around noon, when banging was heard at a side door.  A damaged lock on the door was noticed when the business owner had a moment to investigate a few hours later. The business owner called the police and was directed to online reporting. Officers with the Community F.I.R.S.T. Unit followed up with the business owner on Monday and obtained video that a witness had filmed as the incident was happening. 

The suspect is described as:

• Male

• White

• Wearing a black jacket, black pants, and winter hat with side flaps

The person of interest was described as:

• Female

• White

• Dark hair

• Wearing red hooded sweater, black hooded sweater, black vest, dark vest

The pair had two black backpacks.

At the time of this incident, there was a Peterborough Police Service cruiser in the vicinity. The officers connected to that cruiser were attending a serious mental health call for service inside a building. They had not been made aware of the situation as it was unfolding.

Peterborough Police Make Four Impaired Driving Arrests Over the Weekend

A 48-year-old Peterborough woman is facing an impaired charge after an incident on Friday morning.

At roughly 10:15 am, an officer on general patrol in the Water Street and Parkhill Road area was waved down by a concerned citizen about a possible impaired driver.  The officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop in the area of Wolsely Street and Chemong Road.  Upon speaking with the driver, they noticed signs of impairment.

She was arrested and charged with:

• Operation while impaired – drugs

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 6.

A 24-year-old Lakefield man is facing an impaired charge after an incident on Friday evening.

At approximately 9 p.m., officers on general patrol were approached by a concerned citizen who spotted a man asleep at the wheel in a parking lot. Officers went and checked on the man, noticing signs of impairment and drug paraphernalia.

The man was arrested and charged with:

• Operation while impaired – drugs

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and a seven-day vehicle impoundment.

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 6.

An 18-year-old Burlington man is facing an impaired charge after an incident early Saturday morning. 

At approximately 3:20 a.m., officers were called to Water Street, just north of Parkhill Road, after a rear-end collision involving a possible impaired driver. Upon speaking with the driver, officers noticed signs of impairment.

The man was arrested and charged with:

• Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

• Young driver - B.A.C. above zero (Highway Traffic Act)

• Novice driver - B.A.C. above zero (Highway Traffic Act)

• Careless driving (Highway Traffic Act)

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day license suspension and seven-day vehicle impoundment. 

The accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 6.

A 35-year-old Peterborough man is facing an impaired charge after an incident Saturday evening.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., officers were called to the parking lot of a plaza on Lansdowne Street East and Willowcreek Boulevard by a concerned citizen about a possible impaired driver.  Upon arrival, officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop, noticing signs of impairment with the driver.

The man was arrested and charged with:

• Operation while impaired – drugs

Peterborough Police Launch Investigation of Stolen Vehicles Occurring Thursday Morning

The Peterborough Police Service Street Crime Unit is investigating after three vehicles were stolen and three attempted car thefts occurred early Thursday morning.

The incidents occurred in the early morning hours, with several victims reporting activity between 4 and 4:30 a.m. Five of the vehicles were Toyota Tundra model years 2022 and 2024 and one was a 2025 Lexus. 

The vehicles were taken or attempted to be taken from several different locations, mainly in the west and south end of the city as reported by Peterborough Police. In two cases, tracking devices were ripped from the vehicles and found in other neighbourhoods.

Police say there was a series of similar thefts this past spring and the focus continues to be on Toyota vehicles, mainly trucks, larger and luxury SUVs. Peterborough Police asks residents with these vehicles to be extra vigilant.

Consider taking the following precautions:

• parking another vehicle in front of the vehicle or in your garage, if possible, to make it difficult for thieves to drive off

• if your vehicle comes with a tracking system, please make sure it is installed and activated

• using a theft deterrent device

• if you spot any suspicious activity in your neighbourhood, please report it to Peterborough Police at 705-876-1122 x225 or 9-1-1 if it is an emergency or crime in progress.

Three Suspects Sought From Two Downtown Business Break-and-Enters

The Peterborough Police Service Street Crime Unit is investigating two break-and-enters at a downtown business and is seeking the public's assistance in identifying three suspects.

On Nov. 4, officers were called to the business on Hunter Street, between George Street and Water Street, regarding a break-and-enter that occurred in the early morning hours. The business had been a victim of a similar incident in October in which a purse was taken.

Several items were taken in the second incident including:

• Grey Purse (Kate Spade)

• Wristlet Bag (Coach)

• Size 12 sneakers red and white (Jordans)

• Size 12 sneaker (Nike)

The suspects are described as:

• Male

• Shaven

• Grey track pants

• Beige Bench sweater

• Black shoes with white soles

Suspect #2

• Male

• Red, white, and black plaid coat

• Brown sweater with hood up

• Black pants

• Grey running shoes with white soles

Suspect #3

• Black sweatpants

• White shoes

• Walks with a slight hunch in his back

Police say the incident occurred about 10-15 minutes between 5:15 a.m. and 5:45 a.m. on Nov. 4.

Corbyville Man Arrested For Impaired Driving After Discovered Being Passed Out In Vehicle

A 40-year-old Corbyville man is facing impaired charges after an incident on Monday afternoon, when he was found passed out in a vehicle.

At roughly 1:15 p.m., officers were called to the intersection of Water Street and Nassau Mills Road about a driver passed out at the wheel of a truck and blocking traffic in the northbound lane. They noticed signs of impairment with the driver.

He was arrested and charged with:
