A Customer Service Centre Is Considering Locating In Downtown Peterborough

$_20.JPG

You might have noticed an ad circulating for Trigone in Peterborough. Trigone is a recruiting agency for a company that is looking to possibly locate its customer service centre in Downtown Peterborough. As well, it's listed on the City of Peterborough website, with a link to where you can apply for positions.

The GPA EDC (Greater Peterborough Area Economic Development Corporation) confirms to us in a statement that a customer service centre is indeed testing the waters here.

"Our business development team has been working with a customer service centre to locate in downtown Peterborough," the GPA EDC says in a release to PTBOCanada. "The company is a leading Canadian company in the technology sector. These customer service roles will offer wages above average, great benefits and excellent career opportunities. At this point, we are unable to provide more specific details about the customer service centre. We’re looking forward to making a major announcement with all the details in the near future. This will be a good news story for Peterborough."

Indeed it would.

If you're interested in applying, all the deets here.

UPDATE: The Garnet On Hunter St. Now Under New Ownership

UPDATE! The Garnet is now under new ownership—alive and thriving on Hunter Street.]

ORIGINAL POST

The Garnet on Hunter had a terrific run, but the owners have decided to close it effective February 15th. Here's the heartfelt goodbye letter they posted on their Facebook page:

Hello friends/patrons,

It is with a mixture of sadness and relief to announce that we will be closing The Garnet effective this February 15th, 2014.

It was a pleasure to serve you and to build with you a vibrant and unique community in our tiny bar over the past few years, but it is time for us to move on to the lifestyle that calls to us from the north country. We have known for some time that our rightful place is in the country. Last September a very generous gift of a house on a lake was bestowed to us by a friend and we knew that our days in Peterborough running The Garnet were numbered.

Thank-you so much for the loyal friendship, the strange and stimulating conversations and the music! You are a truly an inspirational lot, and we have made so many friends over the span of time that we have been open. Thank-you!

We are unable to say exactly what is happening next in the space. A couple of interested buyers have just backed out so we are looking for someone(s) who would be able to take over and keep the spirit in this community going through The Garnet. Interested parties can either come talk to us personally or contact us through our email, theredgarnet@gmail.com.

We will be open another month, so please do come out and enjoy the space while we are still around. We plan to be working more shifts in the next bit so we can hang out with you over the next month. Also, if you have an event you would like us to host or are in a band and would like to play, please contact us asap on facebook. We have some dates still open on the calendar and want to pack in the goodness for the next month.

Thank-you for your friendship and patronage!
Tammy and Blair

DBIA Featured Post: Hobart's Steakhouse

HobartsHunter.jpg

In 2012, Ken Found and Frank Peters were looking to expand their steakhouse Hobart's. Thirteen years earlier, Ken as the principal owner and Frank as the Executive Chef and Operations Manager created Lindsay, Ontario’s premier steak restaurant located in the heart of downtown.

After searching for a location that offered visibility, accessibility, and the opportunity to expand, Ken and Frank found just that at 139 Hunter St W in downtown Peterborough. After some expansive renovations to the 150+ year old landmark, they were able to create the upscale, yet casual restaurant they were looking for.

Named after Frank’s father—who was a respected beef cattle producer and marketer with a PhD—Hobart’s Steakhouse has become a go-to steakhouse in downtown Peterborough. It's a place where you can feel the comfortable and inviting atmosphere as soon as you come through the doors! Still on the renovation list is a private 24 seat wine cellar dining room to be finished later on this year that will only add to the incredible experience.

Specializing in Certified Angus Beef (CAB) Brand steaks, Hobart’s is a step above the competition. In 2013, Frank was named by the CAB Brand as an ambassador signifying a superior level of expertise in the brand and beef quality standards in general. As one can imagine, the menu centers on the almighty steak, but it is not limited to the idea of focusing on just high quality red meat only options.

Also available on their broad menu is a variety of chicken, veal and seafood dishes, as well as an incredible array of soups/salads and an appetizer menu that is sure to please any palate. The atmosphere Hobart’s offers is one that is casually elegant. Diners will feel immediately comfortable in its warm setting and use it for any occasion whether it is a meal before heading to the theatre, a Petes or Lakers game, a meeting with business partners, or anything in between. They have always worked with the philosophy that “We dress up, but you don’t have to.”

The new downtown Peterborough location suits Hobart’s well, as they believe they are in the company of many other amazing quality independently owned restaurants and bars, each with its own unique set of
options. They believe that Hunter St. offers a great central location within walking distance of every great shopping and entertainment venue that you could want to visit. The building they were lucky enough to find
is extremely beautiful and represents the history and quality that the restaurant and its owners would like to be associated with.

The Lindsay location has been a proud supporter of many worthy causes in its community with the contribution of many gift certificates for charitable endeavors. The United Way, Women’s Resources awareness campaigns, and Ross Memorial Hospital have all had campaigns that Hobart’s have been a part of. With their new location now in Peterborough, they intend to follow the tradition of giving in this community as well.

Ken and Frank invite you to come down to Hobart’s no matter the occasion and experience their world class restaurant!

Two hundred members of the Peterborough community gathered Saturday night (January 18th) for the third annual Mayor Bennett Giving Gala.

The special night raised over $75,000 in support of the Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough—an organization working with and supporting charities throughout the City and County of Peterborough.

This brings the grand total of dollars raised by the Mayor Bennett Giving Gala to over $205,000 since its inception.

“I am delighted with the tremendous support for the Giving Gala in this our third year,” says Mayor Bennett. “Our community members have once again demonstrated their generous and caring spirit, which serves as an important reminder of who we are as a community.”

The proceeds from the evening support the Community Foundation in its mission to improve the lives of people in the City and County through local giving, grant making and community development initiatives.

UPDATE: Dan O'Toole's reaction when we tweeted him the goal...

Possibly the greatest lacrosse goal you will ever see was scored last night (January 17th) by Colorado Mammoth Captain and Peterborough native John Grant Junior. It was a one-handed, behind the back underhand bounce shot into the top corner past Vancouver Stealth goalie Tyler Richards. Although Grant's Mammoth would go on to lose the game 14-13 in overtime, all the talk around the National Lacrosse League today is about Junior's spectacular highlight reel goal.

Watch epic trick shots from John Grant Jr. here and here, and see the amazing goal below...
