Local broadcaster and author Gordon Gibb has a new book out, Gibberish: Tall Tales and Domestic Disasters From Beyond the Microphone, a collection of previously-published columns. “With the 10th anniversary of the 2004 Peterborough Flood this summer, I also included a look back from my perspective to that fateful day, and our efforts to alert residents as to the ongoing crisis. Also included is a behind-the-scenes account of the birth of what has become an iconic station locally, The WOLF,” says Gibb in a release.

He adds, "Gibberish is an honest, sometimes intimate, sometimes poignant, mostly light-hearted take on everyday life. The short format makes for a nice, light summer read for the hammock, or by the pool."

The self-published book is available as an eBook, as well as a print-on- demand (POD) book through Amazon. “This way, I’m saving trees. Books will only be printed for those who want them."

Part of a worldwide movement of other such libraries, you can take a book or donate a book—or both! The focus of the program is to promote a love of reading and community building. The Story Behind Jeff Macklin's New Book "Neighbourhoods - An Anthology of Words and Visual Art"

DSCN5737.jpg

Peterborough artisan Jeff Macklin has created a wonderful new analog chapbook Neighbourhoods - An Anthology of Words and Visual Art. This limited edition was produced in downtown Peterborough, with full colour plates throughout and letterpress printed two colour covers, and insert with a hand-sewn binding. An Artsweek Peterborough 2013 project, it features a range of fiction, short anecdotes, photography, paintings and prose about and for the people who live in the neighbourhoods of Peterborough. "Local artists and writers have very little formal voice outside of the internet where they have have their works published," Macklin tells us, adding, "This chapbook represents a love for the printed page, which is undervalued overall, but still has a place in our culture—especially our local culture." Below are some of the pages from the book, which you can purchase here.

Add This Book By Local Author Ian Rogers To Your Holiday Gift List

Local author Ian Rogers has crafted a collection of short stories in his latest novel, Every House is Haunted.

"In this brilliant debut collection, Ian Rogers explores the border-places between our world and the dark reaches of the supernatural. The landscape of death becomes the new frontier for scientific exploration. A honeymoon cabin with an unspeakable appetite finally meets its match. A suburban home is transformed into the hunting ground for a new breed of spider. A nightmarish jazz club at the crossroads of reality plays host to those who can break a deal with the devil...for a price. With remarkable deftness, Rogers draws together the disturbing and the diverting in twenty-two showcase stories that will guide you through terrain at once familiar and startlingly fresh."

You can purchase Every House is Haunted at Chapters for $18.95 and some of the local copies on Lansdowne Street are even signed.
