Electric Ale Beer Brewed From Partnership With Electric City Football Club and Bobcaygeon Brewery

Beer and sports have gone hand in hand and the Electric City Football Club (ECFC) and Bobcaygeon Brewing Company (BBC) have teamed to create “Electric Ale” announced on Wednesday.

Bobcaygeon Brewing Company has partnered with other local sports teams such as the Peterborough Petes and their lager, released on March 11 last year. Photo courtesy of Bobcaygeon Brewing Company.

“Community is incredibly important to us at the brewery and the support from the community for ECFC before they’ve played their first game made us even more excited to partner with the team,” said Richard Wood, BBC president. “We’re looking forward to cracking a cold Electric Ale while cheering on the team this summer.”

Electric Ale is a Belgian-style blonde ale with a 4.2 percent alcohol content. It is available at the Bobcaygeon Brewing Company store at 649 The Parkway and on their website beginning Friday with pre-orders available Wednesday.

“Electric Ale is locally brewed Belgian Style Blonde Ale that will quench your thirst while you’re cheering the team on,” explained Wood. “A touch of lemon and coriander on your first sip slowly fades away as into a clean, refreshing finish.”

There will be a joint launch event at Bobcaygeon Brewery to promote and sell the ale on Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

ECFC staff will be on hand with merchandise and season ticket vouchers. ECFC players Zach Ellis-Hayden and Angelika Mihalopulous will be present from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. for a meet-and-greet with fans.

“We are excited to continue with our commitment to involving the local community in every way possible,” said Rob Jenkins, ECFC president, “Bobcaygeon was a natural fit for our ECFC beer with its local ties to the community and the fact that Richard and his team have been involved in the project from day one.”

The beer will also be available at the Y-Drive Beer Gardens and VIP tents at all ECFC home games.

“Beer gardens are an important part of the gameday experience that we are trying to create here in Peterborough,” said Jenkins, “Having our own ECFC locally brewed beer available at our matches just adds to the experience.”

The contest challenged entrants to find two ways out of every room of their home and to know where to meet outside in the event of an emergency.

Douro-Dummer Fire Services (DDFS) personnel distributed the OAFC contest entry sheets to eligible students at Warsaw Public School and St. Joseph’s Catholic Elementary School during Fire Prevention Week in October.

A winner was selected by the OAFC from all the entries in Ontario.

DDFS personnel met Emmet and his family to present his prizes. Fire Chief Chuck Pedersen presented Emmet with a framed copy of his entry, complete with a first-prize ribbon.

“We are grateful for all the children that took the time to prepare a plan to ensure they know two ways out of their home in the event of a fire,” said Fire Chief Pedersen. “We are so proud of Emmet who submitted a great picture, showing just that, and won first place in the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs’ contest.”

Public Health Measures Eased as Ontario Moves to Next Reopening Phase

Ontario has removed proof of vaccination and indoor capacity limits for all public settings while maintaining mask mandates that took effect on Monday.

Indoor settings including restaurants were operating at half capacity since Feb. 17. Photo by David Tuan Bui.

“Local businesses and public facilities have done an amazing job for nearly two years implementing the public health measures needed to help keep our community safe,” said Julie Ingram, Manager of Environmental Health. “While most public health measures are no longer mandatory by law, we encourage residents to be kind and understanding as local businesses and facilities adapt to the relaxation of public health measures and determine whether they will choose to maintain any measures to provide enhanced protection for staff and patrons.”

Some businesses and organizations can optionally continue the requirements depending on their needs. Proof of vaccine may still be needed to access participating indoor facilities and businesses.

Peterborough Public Health is advising residents to have their enhanced vaccine certificate with QR code on hand and to check in advance for what public health requirements are still in place before visiting a public or private setting.

“Wearing a tightly-fitted mask will be important to protect yourself and others, as businesses and organizations return to full capacity,” said Ingram. “The bottom line is, COVID-19 is still present in our community.”

All residents are also reminded to self-screening and stay home when you are sick, even with mild symptoms. For more information about COVID-19 public health measures, please visit www.peterboroughpublichealth.ca/covid19.

The following changes to public health and workplace safety measures are in effect as of March 1.

  • capacity limits have been lifted in all indoor public settings

  • proof of vaccination requirements have been lifted

    • businesses and organizations may choose to require proof of vaccination upon entry

  • other protective measures, such as mask/face covering requirements and passive screening of patrons remain in place

  • businesses and organizations that are open must continue to have safety plans in place
