Inaugural Gary Dalliday Memorial Golf Tournament Raises Over $10,000 For Community Care Peterborough

There were 99 golfers that participated in the inaugural Gary Dalliday Memorial charity golf tournament, raising over $10,000 in support of Community Care Peterborough at the Quarry Golf Club in Ennismore on Monday.

Tournament proceeds went towards Community Care’s support offices in Ennismore and Buckhorn.

“We only about 50 per cent of our funding from the Ontario Government so events like this and fundraising that we do are very important,” said Alicia Vandine, Community Care donor relations. “Our growth and our need for services as people are aging are getting bigger and bigger.”

Proceeds also went towards their Meals on Wheels program, a volunteer position Dalliday was often involved in. The program provided food to seniors living alone, adults with disabilities unable to cook or get groceries or recently discharged patients from hospitals. Dalliday often delivered meals on the organization’s behalf for the program.

A silent auction was held after the tournament and dinner’s conclusion with funds going towards the same cause. Items such as a Michael Bunting Toronto Maple Leafs jersey, a golf club, golf bag and Peterborough Petes Suite tickets were available for auction.

The tournament’s idea spawned from his grandson Nick who previously did a placement with Community Care. Eventually, Gary’s children Pete, Tim and Krista got onboard in making the event happen.

“It speaks to a cause he believed in and the fact that it is a local-based charity, this was one that was near and dear to his heart,” said Tim Dalliday. “It's a very worthy cause and I think he would be very proud of what we're doing today and raising some funds for Community Care.”

Local Country Star's Sixth Annual Charity Golf Tournament For Youth Mental Health a Go

Country star Tebey is back with his sixth annual Tebey Golf Classic in support of youth mental health announced on Tuesday.

Over $125,000 has been raised over the past five years towards youth mental health that includes: 

• Covid-19 Response Drop In Centre - YES Youth Emergency Shelter for Youth and Families

• YES Homelessness Prevention Program partnership with Peterborough Youth *Services and YES Year one and Year two Funding

• 211 Awareness Campaign – Peterborough Youth Services and YES Shelter

• Ongoing education for Mental Health Clinicians of the Peterborough Family Health Team to support free patient mindfulness programming

Funds raised through the event will go towards Youth Mental Health programming through Peterborough Youth Services and YES Shelter For Youth and Families.

“It’s going to be great to be back this year raising money for Peterborough Youth Services and the YES Shelter,” said Tebey. “They have provided so much support to those struggling and have had a huge impact on the lives of youth and families in the Peterborough area.”

The tournament is scheduled for June 2 at Wildfire Golf & Country Club with a shotgun tee-off at 1 p.m. An outdoor acoustic performance will happen at 7 p.m.

Foursome tickets are available on Eventbrite for $1,000 where a $200 tax receipt will be provided to each group. The tournament includes a meet-and-greet with Tebey, acoustic performance from him and special guests (to be announced), activities, contests, meals, prizes and professional photos of your group.

Second Annual Lakers Alumni Golf Tournament Tees Off To Support Peterborough Lacrosse

Over 90 golfers were hitting the green at the Keystone Links Golf & Country Club for the second annual Peterborough Lakers Alumni Golf Tournament held on Friday.

The tournament hosted professional lacrosse players, former Peterborough Lakers and avid golfers to play in the annual tournament. Past and present players such as John Grant Sr., Paul Evans and Shawn Evans were in attendance among several other alumni.

All proceeds go towards the Peterborough Lakers Alumni that support the sustainability and growth of lacrosse in the Peterborough area.

“This tournament is a fundraising and social event,” said Jamie Batley, Alumni president. “Not only is it fundraising but it’s an opportunity for the Lakers, ex-Lakers and all the lacrosse people in the Peterborough area to get together.

Former lacrosse players Howie Stevenson, Art Batley, Bill Ogilvie and Bobby Allen kicked off the tournament with the ceremonial first drives at the course’s first hole.

The inaugural tournament in 2019 did not have any women participating. The second-year event had a welcome change with a small handful of female golfers. Batley says he hopes to see more women participating in future events.

The tournament had prizes for lowest score, closest-to-pin shots and longest drives for both the male and female categories.

Inaugural Charity Golf Tournament Raises $7,500 for Alzheimer's Awareness

The first annual “Golf for Loved Ones” tournament raised $7,464 for Alzheimer Society of Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland, and Haliburton (PKLNH) at The Quarry Golf Club in Ennismore announced Thursday.

The tournament hosted 98 golfers on June 26. Lori Banks and her family ran the event in honour of her mother Edna Banks as she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s for a decade before passing away in 2017.

“The tournament was about raising money, but also about raising awareness,” said Lori. “I don’t think people realize how many people in our area have dementia.”

The intention was not just to raise money but to raise awareness about the 8,590 people living with dementia in PKLNH. Organizers gave each golfer a purple bracelet and purple ribbon to wear for their round to aid in the campaign.

The event was considered a great success according to both the Banks and Kevin Carter, Quarry Golf Club owner. The event has already been booked for next year.

“Lori and Ron ran a great event,” said Carter. “They were very organized and managed to get a great turnout. The golfers had a great day with excellent weather. Lori and her family raised a lot of money for the Alzheimer Society and the tournament will continue to grow and raise more money down the road. The Quarry was thrilled to be involved with such a great cause.”

“Hopefully we can make it bigger and better. We got a lot of feedback from the golfers saying they would be coming back next year,” said Lori. “We raised a lot of money, but we’d like to double it next time. We’ve already booked the course for next year.”
