The event took place on Sept. 8 at Kawartha Golf Club and was originally announced on Aug. 7 by Mayor Jeff Leal at PRHC.

“I want to sincerely thank all the participants and sponsors who so generously supported the PRHC Foundation’s Campaign for PRHC, helping our regional hospital continue to deliver high-quality health care right here in our community,” said Leal. “Special thanks to Nigel Lister for organizing the tournament, and to the PRHC Foundation staff for their support.”

The tournament drew roughly 100 golfers to support the cause. In August, the PRHC Foundation announced that it had extended its fundraising goal of $60 million to $70 million.

“We’re grateful to Mayor Leal and the organizers, participants and sponsors of the Peterborough Mayoral Invitational Charity Golf Tournament for supporting the $70 million campaign to reimagine health and care at Peterborough Regional Health Centre,” Lesley Heighway, PRHC Foundation president. “Your generosity will help fund state-of-the-art technology that drives innovation and empowers lifesaving care for our family, friends and neighbours. Not only that, but community-organized events help us spread the word about the importance and impact of donations, inspiring others to get involved.”

Petes' Mascot Roger Gets Birthday Win As Peterborough Topple Brantford Bulldogs

Petes’ mascot Roger got a birthday wish fulfilled in supporting Autism Ontario and a Peterborough win over the OHL’s top team, the Brantford Bulldogs, in a 5-3 win at the Peterborough Memorial Centre on Saturday night.

The Petes are third in the East Division with a 17-13-1-1 record. Photo courtesy of Kenneth Andersen and the Peterborough Petes.

After letting in an early goal, Peterborough got on the score sheet as Gerry DiCunzolo stick checked a Bulldog for an odd-man rush. He opted to shoot and scored to make it 1-1.

In the second period, the Petes scored again as Carson Cameron joined the rush on the power play and was the recipient of a centring pass and one-timed it home for a 2-1 lead. Peterborough had the man-advantage again, and it was Braydon McCallum who showed off his hand-eye coordination. He batted the puck out the air from a deflected Brennan Faulkner shot and scored to make it 3-1.

The Bulldogs refused to go down without a fight as just under four minutes into the final frame, Caleb Malhotra scored to bring the Bulldogs to within one. Cooper Dennis tied it up for the Brantford exactly three minutes later and it was a brand new hockey game.

Adam Levac did not want to let the Bulldogs leave with a win on his watch. He carried the puck into the offensive zone alone and wristed it past a defender and the goaltender to reclaim the lead, 4-3. Falkner added in an empty-net goal and Peterborough stood victorious over the league’s top team in a 5-3 win.

The Petes are getting festive for their next game this Thursday. They host the Niagara IceDogs for their annual Christmas game with puck drop scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.

Windsor Spitfires's Early Offense Too Much For Peterborough Petes On Teddy Bear Toss Night

The Petes saw the plushies fly on Teddy Bear Toss night but could not get the victory in a 6-3 game against the Windsor Spitfires at the Peterborough Memorial Centre on Thursday.

Prior to the game, the Petes had recalled forwards Jonny Brooks (Oakville Blades) and Elijah Chavez (Stouffville Spirit) and they played on the fourth line.

Both teams had 10 shots on goal but Windsor had the only goal from Shawn Costello in the first period.

Things did not get better for the Petes in the second frame as they allowed the next three goals for a 4-0 game going into the third.

Peterborough had a four-on-three power play early in the period as James Petrovski scored his first as a Pete to let the teddy bears fly and a 4-1 game.

Just under five minutes later, Gerry DiCunzolo intercepted a pass in their defensive zone and gave it to Adam Levac with a three-on-one rush. Levac opted for the shot and he scored to cut the lead to two. Just under two minutes later, Windsor responded with a Anthony Cristoforo goal for an insurance marker during a four-on-four to make it 5-2.

Peterborough would not go away quietly as less than a minute later, Matthew Perreault scored from a deflected pass that wound up on his stick on the same four-on-four scenario.

Liam Greentree added another tally for Windsor less than a minute later and that was the last score of the game as the Spitfires won 6-3.

The Petes remain at home to face the Brantford Bulldogs this Saturday, for Roger’s Birthday Bash in support of Autism Ontario. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

Peterborough Petes Hosting Annual Teddy Bear Toss Game This Thursday

The Peterborough Petes are sending their plushies flying as they host their annual Teddy Bear Toss game against the Windsor Spitfires on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.

Last year, 1571 donations were collected in support of the Move 99.7 and Pure Country 105 Christmas Toy Drive, in support of the Salvation Army’s Annual Christmas Appeal. Photo courtesy of David Pickering and the Peterborough Petes.

The team asks fans to bring donations to the game, including stuffed animals, toques, gloves, and socks. Participating fans can throw their donations onto the ice after Peterborough scores its first goal.

The donations will then be collected and counted by Chemong Home Hardware Building Centre, and the proceeds will be donated in support of the Pete 99.7 and KX105 Christmas Toy Drive and the Salvation Army’s Annual Christmas Appeal. Participating fans are asked to place their donations in a clear plastic bag to prevent them from being damaged on the ice. Fans who cannot attend but wish to donate can drop off their donations at the Petes Store prior to the game.

Rexall is selling stuffed bears in the PMC lobby before the game. Both small ($10) and large ($20) bears are available. Net proceeds from each bear sold will go towards the Rexall Care Network, in support of local food banks. Fans can purchase bears at both Peterborough Rexall locations before Thursday.

Peterborough Petes Snap Flint Firebirds Point Streak With 3-2 Victory

The Flint Firebirds had their 12-game point streak snapped at the hands of the Peterborough Petes as the home team won 3-2 at the Peterborough Memorial Centre on Thursday night.

The first goal did not occur until late in the period. Peterborough had an outnumbered attack and Adam Levac fed Adam Novotný for a tip-in to give the Petes a 1-0 lead.

Peterborough built on their lead in the second as they were on the power play. Matthew Soto was the recipient of a long breakout pass, gained the offensive zone and found Aiden Young. The latter stickhandled the puck then sniped it past Flint’s goaltender Mason Vaccari for a 2-0 lead after two periods

The final frame saw Flint not go down without a fight. Darels Uljanskis scored for the Firebirds less than five minutes into the period to make it a 2-1 game. Peterborough had a little déjà vu as Levac from behind the net and fed Novotný for another goal to restore the Petes’s two-goal lead. Darian Anderson scored on the power play to bring Flint back to within one goal. Petes goaltender Esston Rye stood tall for the next 7:39, he stopped 28 of 30 shots to help preserve the win and break Flint’s point streak with the 3-2 win.

The Petes hit the road Friday to Kitchener to take on the Rangers. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium.
