Dude Stands Out On Ice On Little Lake In Broad Daylight And Cuts Copper Wire From Pier Wall, Dude Busted

From Peterborough-Lakefield Community Police Service release today...

Theft/Mischief Arrest:
On the 28th of February at approximately 10:27 am a witness called the
police after watching a male standing on the ice in Little Lake cutting
copper wire from the pier wall in front of the Scouts Canada building.
When officers arrived the male started to walk away from the area and
was apprehended just north of the Scouts Canada building. He was found
to be in possession of a hacksaw, wire cutters and other tools.
Investigation determined that approximately 30 feet of cooper wire had
been cut out of ABS piping along the west pier wall of the marina.
Damage has been estimated at approximately $10,000.00. Michael Joseph
Giroux age 34 of Edinburgh Street was arrested and charged with theft
under $5,000.00, mischief over $5,000.00 and failing to comply with
conditions of a probation order. He was taken to court, remanded into
custody and will reappear in court later this morning.

Tomorrow, February 23, is Pink Shirt Day. Police will be wearing the ugliest pink baseball hats you have ever seen in support of Pink Shirt Day (pink shirts just weren't feasible!) Students will be at the Station at 9am to receive their very own ugly pink hat, and to show solidarity against bullying in our community.

Wearing pink tomorrow symbolizes that we, as a society, will not tolerate bullying! Wear PINK!

Our school officers deal with issues of bullying, especially cyber-bullying, every day. Research has shown that the effects of bullying are crippling and long term. Police work in concert with teachers and school boards to educate students about the bully, the bullied and the bystander.

Tests passed - 26
Warns registered - 8
Fails registered - 3
Drivers licences suspended - 19
Impaired/over 80 charges - 9
HTA charges - 58
Other criminal code charges - 5

Total impaired and over 80 charges for 2010 were 80.

This compares to 2009 as follows:

Almost 250 Pieces Of Stolen Mail (Including Xmas Cheques) Recovered By Local Police

A special media release from Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service...

On 04Feb11, officers responded to an Adult Residence for Independent Living in the City of Peterborough. Staff had called after discovering almost 250 pieces of mail in the room of a resident. An investigation was conducted and it was determined that all mail had been stolen from the following list of residences over the period from November, 2010 through this date.

Further investigation revealed that the party responsible did not have
the mental capacity to appreciate their actions.
Our Police Service in partnership with the Canadian Mental Health
Association will meet with the party involved in a diversion capacity.
Our Police Service will be making use of Auxiliary Officers to return
all mail over the next week. All items of mail had been opened, but all
appear to be intact. Many cheques (Christmas Presents) were located.
We will make our best efforts to return all property. If members of the
community are missing mail that they were expecting, they are welcome to
attend the station and if present will return property. Please have
proper ID available. Community members are asked to refrain from calling
the station regarding this investigation.

Suspects Enter Hostess Frito Lay Truck Parked In The Patch And Remove Five Cases Of Doritos Nacho Cheese Chips

Theft:
Sometime between the 16th of January at 12:00 pm and the 17th of January at 5:00 am suspects entered a Hostess Frito Lay truck parked on Rye Street. Once inside they removed five cases of Doritos Nacho Cheese Chips, a case of Cheeto Cheese Puffs and a case of Smokey Bacon Chips. Break and Enter:
Sometime between the 9th and the 10th of January suspects entered a
Knox Street residence after forcing open the front door. Once inside
they removed three bottles of homemade wine, a female’s jacket white
in colour with large cuffs and fur trim around the hood, ten Nintendo DS
games with the name “Nathan” written inside with white marker and an
orange cloth grocery bag with the word “Orange” written on it.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Peterborough Lakefield
Community Police Service or Crime Stoppers.

Theft:
Sometime between late October and early November 2010, suspects removed
a 350-gallon Grizzly brand roofing tar kettle from a construction site
on Dutton Road. Foran’s Roofing in Oshawa owns the kettle and it sits
on a single axle trailer with a 9 hp Honda gas powered motor. The unit
is valued at approximately $10,420.00. Anyone with information is asked
to call the Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service or Crime
Stoppers.
