Reminder: Green Waste Pickup Starts Today In Peterborough

Place your green waste in reusable containers (with labels), bushel baskets or paper yard waste bags. No plastic bags.

Securely tie brush in bundles up to 1 m or 3 feet in length and 30 cm or 12 inches in diameter, weighing no more than 22 kg or 50 lbs.

Enjoy watching the truck take your green waste away.

Saturday is Earth Hour, when countries around the planet turn their lights out for an hour to take a stand against climate change. If you're not out and about in the city admiring the darkness for those 60 Minutes, bring it (or warm up to it) with some music themed around dancing in the dark. World Water Day Event Includes Speech On "The History of Drinking Water In Peterborough"

On Tuesday (March 22nd), it's World Water Day 2011, and to mark this special day there is a free event at the Peterborough Public Library from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in their auditorium that includes a keynote speech on "The History of Drinking Water in Peterborough". Should be interesting.

Former Trent Student Bob Hayes Talks About His New Book "Wolves of the Yukon"

/

Bob Hayes recently dropped by Titles Bookstore in Peterborough to talk about his new book, Wolves of the Yukon.

Bob, who is an alumnus of Trent University, described the writing process as "a full year of writing that took ten years to write." Bob left Peterborough in 1975 and went to the Yukon to research and write about Yukon wolves. This book is a compilation of 25 years worth of knowledge as a wolf biologist.

When writing the book, Bob felt he had to tell stories to keep the reader engaged but found it difficult with his past of writing scientific papers. But he managed to pull it off, and Bob gives thanks to his family for helping him through it as it truly was a joint effort: His family helped him research the book, his daughter edited it, his brother provided the drawings, and a friend of his daughter provided the maps.

Drop in to Titles Bookstore to pick up a copy of Wolves of the Yukon.
