PtboPics: The Flaming Hoops At The Venue Wine Bar

/

It was a special night at The Venue wine bar Friday as former I Mother Earth band members Brian Byrne (vocals) and Christian Tanna (drums) played covers ranging from U2 to Ozzy to Johnny Cash to Led Zeppelin in their cover band The Flaming Hoops (see pics below), which mixes rock with a country twang. Their cover of U2's "Bad" was a highlight of the night. Christian's brother, Jag Tanna, guitarist from I Mother Earth, was also in attendance (Jag resides here in Peterborough). It had been rumoured throughout the day that I Mother Earth was going to reunite to play a set at The Venue, but that didn't happen. Both Jag and Brian told us the band is working on new material, but it remains unclear when they will play again in public. Also in attendance was the Toronto hard rock band Easy Sleezy, who are working on a new album.

Peterborough Participating In Worldwide "Jane's Walk" Event This Weekend

/

This will be the second year that Peterborough has participated in the worldwide Jane's Walk, which first began in 2007. This annual event always takes place the first weekend in May, and was created by friends of Jane Jacobs, who passed away in 1996. Jane encouraged others to familiarize themselves with where they live, work, and play. This Saturday and Sunday, there will be four walks that will take place throughout Peterborough—each enlightening us on places we pass by each and everyday. Head on out to show your support and get to know Peterborough just a little bit better.

PtboCanada Was There: Canadian Canoe Museum Welcomes Peterborough Paddling Club

Last night, the Canadian Canoe Museum hosted the inaugural membership event for the Peterborough Paddling Club. Local author and canoe expert Kevin Callan and the Kawartha Highlands Signature Site Park Superintendent, Paul Smith, both were speakers.
 
Peterborough Paddling Club (PPC) is looking to bring together the local paddling community and promote the healthy pastime with local excursions. Starting May 11th, the PPC will be holding Wednesday night local paddling trips to destinations such as Omemee-Emily Park, Lakefield Beach and Marsh, Stoney Lake, Young's Point, Warsaw/Indian River, Coon Lake, Otonabee River and Lovesick Lake. There will also be multi-day excursions in the Kawartha Highlands Signature Site Park this year. Sign up on their webpage to attend these events.
