“I understand the frustration and feelings of being unsafe that many in our community have expressed as it relates to activities that involve the trafficking of illicit substances and the crimes that spring from it,” Stuart Betts, Peterborough Police Chief. “The illicit drug trade is almost always connected with violence, including firearms-related violence. And as you will see, in both incidents mentioned in today’s release firearms were seized by our officers.”

Both of the accused is being held in custody and will appear in court on Thursday,

Given the nature of the activity and items seized during this investigation, the names of the accused are being released according to Peterborough Police.

“These arrests also represent the ongoing dedication of our Drug Unit and Street Crime Investigators to disrupt and dismantle these operations in our city,” said Betts. “There can be no tolerance for those who would prey on those who battle addiction, and perpetuate their struggles. To all residents, we will continue to make Your Safety Our Priority.”

Leal has made the following statement:

On behalf of the City of Peterborough, I am extremely pleased to recognize and celebrate Pride Week, organized by Peterborough-Nogojiwanong Pride, from September 20 to 29 this year.

The theme for this year’s Pride Week is “Educate. Activate. Celebrate!”

Peterborough is a city that values diversity and inclusivity. Let’s take time to celebrate our 2SLGBTQIA+ community and their invaluable contributions to the social, cultural and economic life of our city. Let’s take time to learn about the struggles and triumphs of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in their ongoing fight for a more inclusive and equitable society – Discrimination, homophobia, and transphobia continue to hurt members of our community. Let’s take action to ensure that everyone is safe, valued, and loved, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Let this week serve as a reminder of the importance of standing together against discrimination and hate. As we attend the events and festivities, let us take the time to listen, learn, and join the voices of those who continue to advocate for a more inclusive and welcoming community. We can all be allies in our daily lives.

The Peterborough-Nogojiwanong Pride Week flag-raising will be held at City Hall on Friday, at 12:15 p.m. The Pride Parade will be held on Sept. 28, departing from City Hall at 1:30 p.m. and continuing to Millennium Park.

According to a press release, Fleming says there is a tremendous need for qualified personal support workers across the province. It continues to state that the province estimates that it will need up to 24,000 qualified personal support workers by 2026.

The new mobile lab will train 64 potential personal support workers with state-of-the-art equipment. The course is over two semesters with 400 hours of theory, hands-on laboratory experience and 300 hours of real-life training.

“This mobile laboratory allows us to conveniently bring health care training into the heart of Lindsay and the surrounding regions,” said Maureen Adamson, Fleming College. “These students will offer health care support to the local community during their placements and upon graduation.”

“I am thrilled to see Fleming College taking such a proactive approach in addressing the healthcare needs of our region,” said Laurie Scott, Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock MPP. The introduction of this mobile PSW lab is a game-changer for our community, providing accessible and high-quality training right here in Lindsay. This initiative will not only equip our students with valuable skills but it will ultimately enhance the overall healthcare services available locally.”

The mobile lab allows the college to deliver PSW training without renovating a physical space. The PSW program will be located at the Frost Campus in the winter of next year. Fleming says there is potential to expand to other communities within the region as stated in a press release.
