Trent Valley Archives Hosting Open House and Book Launch On Saturday

Trent Valley Archives is opening its doors to the public to celebrate the launch of its newest book and explore materials related to the dispersal of families who came with the 1825 Peter Robinson emigration this Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Around 11:30 a.m., Dr. Elwood Jones, author, historian and archivist and John McQuarrie, photographer, will speak about their new book, ‘Peterborough, Spirit of Place.’ It profiles some of the history of Peterborough, including articles about the 1825 Robinson emigration and how the town evolved from that point.

Jones will also present materials related to what happened to the next generation of those who immigrated from Ireland in the early 1800s. Where they went and what they were able to accomplish is a matter of great interest as Peterborough County and areas beyond began to develop into the vibrant places they have become.

Peterborough Police Seeking Stabbing Suspect Who Wounded Victim In the Abdomen

Peterborough Police Service officers are investigating a stabbing incident that led to a man being taken to multiple hospitals on Saturday night.

At roughly 11:20 p.m., officers were called to a residence in the Park Street South and Romaine Street area. Officers learned that a male victim had been stabbed in the abdomen during an altercation with another man known to him. The victim was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre and then transferred to a Toronto-area hospital by ambulance for further treatment.

Officers and a K9 unit searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.  At this time, the victim is not cooperating with investigators.

Peterborough Transit Terminal Partially Reopened

Effective immediately, Peterborough Transit has partially resumed operations at its downtown Transit terminal.

Three bus bays, all located along Simcoe Street in front of the terminal, will operate: 

• Bay 5 (on Simcoe Street at west end of terminal) for Route 11 Water 

• Bay 6 (on Simcoe Street in the middle) for Route 10 Technology and Route 12 Otonabee 

• Bay 7 (on Simcoe Street at the east end) for Westbound Route 4 Weller and Westbound Route 6 Sherbrooke  

All other routes will continue to operate from their temporary locations for at least a week. 

Transit Ambassadors are available on-site to assist customers during the transition.

Temporary bus stops have been in place since construction began on Aug. 5. Upgrades to the downtown Transit Terminal will eliminate the need for buses to reverse out of the pickup and drop-off locations.

Peterborough Petes End Preseason With Shootout Win Over Sarnia

The Peterborough Petes finish their preseason on a good note as they got a shootout win over the Sarnia Sting, 6-5, at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena on Friday.

Colin Fitzgerald led Peterborough with one goal and two assists for three points. He also scored in the shootout.

Adam Novotný and Gerry DiCunzolo scored their first goals as a Pete. Caden Taylor scored his third goal in two preseason games and racked up an assist.

Braydon McCallum and Matthew Perreault had two assists in the game. Yanis Lutz had an assist, his fourth in the preseason.

Easton Rye stopped 29 of 34 shots and four of six in the shootout.

The Petes are hosting their Season Ticket Member Barbecue on Tuesday.

The regular season begins Thursday with the Petes’s home opener against the Brampton Steelheads at 7:05 p.m. at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.

B!KE, the Community Cycling Hub, is hosting a Pride Glow Ride on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m.

This is a family-friendly glow pride parade ride with colourful decorated bikes. Participants are encouraged to arrive with their bikes already decked out in colourful lights and/or rainbow decorations. Riders will meet at Quaker Foods City Square at 7pm and ride a nearly 10 km route that is nearly 10 km long with stops at rainbow locations. Located at 415 George St. N. in Downtown Peterborough, Noodles Squad brings the heart of Thai street food to Peterborough, offering authentic flavours inspired by traditional recipes.

Formerly known as Real Thai Cuisine, Noodles Squad is a second-generation restaurant.

Peterborough Lakers Fundraising Campaign Gets $15,484.50 For PRHC Foundation

Through a partnership established in May, the Peterborough Lakers have raised $15,484.50 for the Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) Foundation in a cheque presentation held at the Peterborough Memorial Centre on Friday afternoon.

The campaign encompasses the technology and equipment used in the hospital, according to Lesley Heighway, PRHC Foundation president and CEO.

“The whole $70 million campaign is about equipment and technology,” she said. “There's a number of a different priorities within our campaign but every dollar raised is going toward the campaign.”

Throughout the MSL season, the Lakers sold limited-edition Lakers merchandise, held auctions and held a special PRHC Family Night on June 26 to help raise money.

“There's a saying, ‘The best hospital exists in the most generous communities,’ and that's absolutely true,” explained Heighway. “We're very fortunate to have a very generous community stepping behind this campaign and really helping propel care forward for decades to come.”

In addition to the $15,484.50, Kawartha Smart Homes surprised the PRHC foundation with a $1,300 donation, five dollars for every goal scored by the Lakers this season.

Peterborough Man Arrested After Brandishing a Knife During a Road Rage Incident

A 50-year-old Peterborough man is facing several charges after a road rage incident that involved brandishing a knife at a person on Wednesday evening.

At roughly 6 p.m., officers were called to the Hunter Street West and Aylmer Street area. Upon arrival, they learned that the victim, who was stopped in their vehicle at George Street and McDonnel Street, was approached by a motorcyclist. The latter yelled and spat at the victim, complaining about their driving, then followed the victim to a parking lot in the Hunter Street West and Aylmer Street area.

The motorcyclist approached the car again and brandished a knife at the driver while yelling, including racial slurs, before fleeing the area. The motorcyclist was identified and officers attended his residence and took him into custody on Thursday at approximately 8:30 p.m.

The man was arrested and charged with:

• Assault

• Assault with A Weapon

• Uttering Threats - Cause death or Bodily Harm

• Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

The accused is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.

As the case involves a hate crime element, the Peterborough Police will address it progresses through the court process.

City of Peterborough Systems May Experience Some Temporary Service Disruptions

The City of Peterborough is experiencing intermittent disruptions to its information technology network and applications, announced on Friday.

According to the City, this may affect the municipality’s phone systems, as well as in-person and online services, including the ability to complete payments.

The City regrets any inconvenience this may cause. An update will be provided when the situation is resolved.

City of Peterborough Hosting Consultation Session For Morrow Park Ball Diamond Improvements

The City of Peterborough is inviting the public to learn more about planned Morrow Park Ball Diamond Improvements at a public drop-in session on Oct. 1 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Miskin Law Community Complex.

City of Peterborough staff will be available to answer questions about the project. Residents can provide feedback on the amenities they would like to see in the proposed park improvements.  

A public survey is available online. Hard copies of the survey are available at City Hall and is open until 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 7. 

The Morrow Park Ball Diamond is currently a Level B diamond. Improvements will bring it to a Premier/Level A diamond, including a tension netting mesh backstop and screens, new dugouts, outfield and line fencing, batting cages, irrigation, accessible aluminum bleachers with a media box and sports field lighting to provide consistent light levels across the ball diamond.  

The improvements will extend the facility’s overall lifespan, enhance local programming opportunities and improve accessibility features. The asphalt parking lot will also be rejuvenated.  

Work is expected to be completed in 2026. 

The Ontario government is investing $1 million to help upgrade Morrow Park announced back in mid-July. This investment is part of the province's $200 million Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund. It is a province-wide initiative that helps communities revitalize local facilities, grow the economy and promote active, healthy living across Ontario.
