David Goyette Launches New Book "Heading to Happy" At Splice

David proudly displays his new book. Photo by Evan HoltDavid Goyette, Executive Assistant to Mayor Daryl Bennett, was at Splice last night to launch his new book, Heading to Happy. This is David's second book, and it took him just over three years to write it. Heading to Happy is David's personal collection of 40 learned lessons in the art of living.

Exerpts were read by Betsy McGregor and Tim Rowat, while Jason Chessar gave a personal comentary on how the book influenced him.

David's book consists of 40 notes, but the most important one to him is based on the last line of The Beatles song "The End" on Abbey Road—"The love you take, Is equal to the love you make." That is the most important message David would like to convey.

All proceeds of the evening were donated to Our Space, and graciously accepted by Our Space Executive Director, Ken Whatman.

What You Would Do With Peterborough Square

Photo: Evan HoltSo we recently posed the question on Twitter, "Peterborough Square. If someone handed you the building, clean slate, what would you do with it?" We received a range of interesting answers. Among them:

-- "Demolish it, build a public square & park around Market Hall with ice rink, outdoor stage, greenspace. Parking underground."Candace Shaw

-- "Peterborough Square: Casino!"David Feeley

-- "Dr offices. Professional buiding." Paul Laing

-- "Ptbo Square partly demolished. Keep the theatre and leave the lower level for offices. Above should be a conference centre!" Justin Beaudoin

-- "Convention centre, arboretum w/ space for farmer's market, town square."Bill Juby

-- "PTBO Square should be an international flea market."Catherine Hanrahan

Several people on Twitter really liked Candace Shaw's idea above, with Alana Callan remarking, "It would really put the focus back on downtown as a communal place, the 'heart' of the city."

So what do you think? Perfect world, what would you do with Peterborough Square? Leave it as is? Tweak? Radical change? Comment below, or elaborate on some of the thoughts above.

Some Indie Bands Are Rocking The Spill This Friday

A couple of Toronto indie bands—Action Makes and Invasions—are heading into the Peterpatch for a show this Friday (February 11) at The Spill, the place where we've caught some great acts.

Fyi, one of the members of Action Makes, Andrew Stoeten, is from Peterborough. So that gives you an extra reason to check them out if you're out and about this Friday.
