The Peterborough Zoo is looking for your votes!

The Riverview Park and Zoo is looking for your votes in the latest Pepsi Refresh Project campaign. The Riverview Zoo already treats small animal species, but their space and resources are limited. The Pepsi Refresh Project lets groups submit "Fresh" ideas for the public to vote on. You can create an account on Pepsi's webpage and vote once a day. Voting started today at noon and ends on April 30th, where the winner will be awarded a grant of up to $100,000. The zoo would like to use the money for things such as a new dental sink, a surgical table and lighting, cages and tanks, and a digital X-ray machine.

Head on over to the Pepsi Refresh Project to get started.

We Take You Inside Dreams of Beans Roasting House

Many of you probably start your morning out with a cup of java to give yourself a kickstart to the day. Recently, I popped into the little Dreams of Beans Roasting House located on George Street. I had always been curious to see the roasting process and how the java in my cup came to be.

I was warmly greeted by owner Johanna Sinclair (pictured below left with her giant roaster) at her roasting house. She was a wealth of information and knowledge, and shared her passion and dedication of all things coffee with me. Johanna has done a lot of travelling around the world to continue to flourish her passion and bring back more expertise and new ideas.

Her main Dreams of Beans café at 138 Hunter Street has been a thriving place, and Johanna was thrilled about opening the tiny roasting house on George St. a couple of years ago. I was happy to hear from her about how many local merchants and restaurants offer roasts from Dreams of Beans, including Maggie's Eatery and Brio Gusto amongst many others.

If you ever get the chance to pop by her roasting house on top of your visit to her café, it's definitely worth the trip!

PtboPics: Family Day At Ontario Speed Skating Oval In Lakefield

There was a great crowd out today for Family Day at the Oval in Lakefield. Peterborough MPP Jeff Leal was out with his family (see his picture below), and the ice conditions were pretty good considering the warm weather we've had of late, so kudos to the ice crew. People were able to try speed skates which were made available, and there were hot dogs and hot chocolate being served. It was fun in the sun.
