PMZ's Video From Strutt 4 Kids Fashion Show

Several hundred people flocked to The Market Hall in downtown Peterborough last night to take in Strutt Central's Strutt 4 Kids Fashion Show. Deejay, a member of the local fire spinning troupe The Pyro Flys, wowed the crowd with this jaw dropping hoola hoop act below.

Also, Theresa Longo was one of the guest emcees at last night's Strutt 4 Kids; she walked the runway plus introduced the latest clothing lines from Flavour Fashion, Plush Boutique and Save Our Soles. Here she is...

Column No. 2: Dating In The City With Match Me Peterborough's Rebecca Cooper

COLUMN 2 TOPIC: Tips on how to successfully date when using a Matchmaker

Anyone can hire a matchmaker, but if you want the most bang for your buck, then make sure you are putting in the effort on your end as well. Here are eight great tips on how to successfully date when using a Matchmaker:

1. Be emotionally ready to meet someone new: It’s important to take the time after a split to heal from any pain before moving forward. There is a huge difference when it comes to wanting to date, and being ready to date. So before you consider joining any type of service, you should ask yourself, “Are you ready to date again?”

2. It’s important to be realistic when looking for a compatible match. If you have been actively on the market for more than two years and have not had even one second date, then you need to re-evaluate your expectations.

3. Take a good look at your outer shell. Looks matter: YOU are the first thing people see when they meet you so make sure you are representing yourself the way you want to be perceived.

4. Tell the world you are ready to start dating. Allowing your family and friends to know you're single really sets the stance, and they’ll keep their eyes and ears opened for you when hearing about single friends and colleagues. Keep the way you go about meeting singles confidential, it’s only your business.

5. It’s important to imagine yourself dating. Start to think about meeting new people and finding love.

6. Keep a positive attitude! If you start thinking that you will never meet this person, then you are setting the mood for failure.

7. Patience is a virtue…. What is the rush anyway?

8. Be open to dating advice. Having a dating expert with you and assisting you in the process gives you an opportunity to learn and grow. Take advantage of this!

Greater Peterborough's #VitalSignsPTBO 2013 Report Is Out & Shows Our Sense Of Community Belonging Is Off The Charts

The Community Foundation of Greater Peterborough (CFGP) has released their first Vital Signs report on the community. It captures a snapshot of our community that measures its vitality—needs, strengths, and trends—and supports action on issues that are critical to our quality of life here. CFGP is one of 26 community foundations across Canada participating in this important initiative. Among the findings, the report reveals that our sense of community belonging is much higher than the rest of Ontario (see chart below). It also reveals areas of improvement needed—for example, 10 in 100 people here live in poverty. We've captured some screen grabs from the report below, but you can read—and share—the entire report here. And keep the discussion going on Twitter and Facebook at hashtag #VitalSignsPTBO.

The Story Behind Jeff Macklin's New Book "Neighbourhoods - An Anthology of Words and Visual Art"

DSCN5737.jpg

Peterborough artisan Jeff Macklin has created a wonderful new analog chapbook Neighbourhoods - An Anthology of Words and Visual Art. This limited edition was produced in downtown Peterborough, with full colour plates throughout and letterpress printed two colour covers, and insert with a hand-sewn binding. An Artsweek Peterborough 2013 project, it features a range of fiction, short anecdotes, photography, paintings and prose about and for the people who live in the neighbourhoods of Peterborough. "Local artists and writers have very little formal voice outside of the internet where they have have their works published," Macklin tells us, adding, "This chapbook represents a love for the printed page, which is undervalued overall, but still has a place in our culture—especially our local culture." Below are some of the pages from the book, which you can purchase here.
