Assault With A Weapon:
On the 1st of April at approximately 5:30 pm, a 38-year-old male from Peterborough was to be sentenced on a sexual assault charge. The Presiding Justice adjourned the case to another date. The mother of the sexual assault victim in this case, a 38-year-old female from Hastings, was in the court at the time, approached, and stabbed the male using a small pair of scissors from a manicure set. The female was arrested and charged with assault with a weapon, uttering death threats and possession of a dangerous weapon. The victim was taken to Hospital by ambulance where he was treated and released. Due to the nature of the court case, the name of the accused will not be released, as it will lead to the identification of her 15-year-old daughter, a sexual assault victim. The Magnetometer was functioning at the time and the small pair of scissors from the manicure set was not seized, as it was not an item listed on the prohibited list. The policy concerning these types of items, cosmetic sets, entering the courthouse is presently under review.

Developing... we are receiving reports of huge mosquitoes landing on some houses in Peterborough and the surrounding area, including as far away as Apsley and Coe Hill. The mosquitoes appear to be landing right over the entrance to people's homes, taunting them—not letting them in, and not letting them out. We received this photo below from a woman who took the picture from inside the safety of her car. We are working on getting a hold of a entomologist for comment.

We were in Nata's the other day minding our own business, when all of the sudden five city officials marched in with purpose and sat at the table next to us (or at least they looked like city officials, because they had suits on, briefcases, looked serious, and were wearing City of Peterborough buttons).
The officials made small talk about the upcoming Lakers season and the warmer weather that Jay Scotland keeps promising, but then began whispering (loud enough so we could hear) about building a subway system in Peterborough, and what needed to be done to make that happen—and how much the feds could kick in. One of them sketched out the subway plan on a napkin (see pic at left).
We managed to snap the pic after the meeting had ended, and the city officials inexplicably left Nata's without picking up the napkin drawing. As you can see, the photo appears to show a proposed subway system running through downtown Peterborough and extending as far as Fleming and Trent. The monetary figure written on the napkin ranges from $150 million to $200 million, and the completion date by 2020 for all phases.
One of the city officials—he was younger, and looked like maybe an intern—came rushing back into Nata's a minute or two later to retrieve the napkin, and he looked embarassed. We had managed to sit down again after taking the picture, and pretended to talk about the impact of the Make It Your Downtown campaign.
We later contacted city officials about the subway conversation and the drawing, but were given a terse "No Comment".
Do you think Peterborough needs a subway system? Comment below...
