Warsaw Public School Participates In Plow Painting Program

Peterborough County has a neat plow painting program that area schools participate in...

The plow painting program has taken place for the past few years, and is in line with celebration of Public Works Week in Canada (which is May 16th to May 23rd this year). The program is to raise awareness in schools of municipal public works and what they do—maintaining roads for the safety of the travelling public.

One of the latest schools to participate is Ms. Tibbles Grade 8 class at Warsaw Public School.

**Plows were also sent to Havelock Belmont Methuen School and Ridpath Junior Public to paint.

The plows are used again the next season by the County—and then sent out again to be painted by more schools.

GoFundMe Page Set Up For Young Boy Fighting For His Life #PrayForParker

Parker Fulford is a very young boy from Peterborough who has overcome many struggles since being born premature, at only 23 weeks, in February 2012. The latest is very severe, as he has been airlifted from PRHC to Toronto Sick Kids with an extreme case of pneumonia. Parker, who has cerebral palsy, is in critical condition in hospital.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by James Todd to help the parents Jennifer and Mike Fulford with the costs they will incur due to travel to Toronto, losing income, food costs, etc., that add to an already stressful situation.

"I set up the GoFundMe page to do my part in helping them relieve some stress, because I know I'd hope for someone to do the same," James Todd, a father himself, tells us.

All funds collected will go to help the family cover costs. Click here to give, and use the hashtag #PrayForParker on Twitter and Facebook.

Petes Raise Over 3,000 Pounds of Food Through Project Shutout Hunger

The Peterborough Petes are proud to announce that 2,416.2 pounds of food have been raised through the Project Shutout Hunger program. When combined with cash donations collected throughout the campaign, 3,090.1 pounds of food will be donated to the Kawartha Food Share.

Eight teams representing the Peterborough Minor Hockey Council (PMHC) participated in the program, holding tag days and other events to help end hunger in our community. The Novice AAA Petes collected 856.4 pounds of food, the most raised by any participating team. As a reward for their efforts, they will attend the Petes game on January 29 against Connor McDavid and the Erie Otters. Prior to the game, the team will be recognized in an on-ice presentation.

Kawartha Food Share General Manager Steve Sullivan says “We’re thrilled to see the support from the Petes and local minor hockey organizations. Project Shutout Hunger helps feed more than 7,600 men, women and children in our community every month.”
