"Dr. Doug" Hosting A Wellness Extravaganza In Peterborough January 20th

Local chiropractor "Dr. Doug" (aka Doug Lukinuk, former Adam Scott basketball legend and the guy instrumental for this Hoop Dreams project in the Patch) is having a wellness extravaganza on Thursday, January 20th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

There will be prizes and giveaways, discounts on supplements and services, as well as info sessions on various health related topics.

There will also be an opportunity to try out the latest technology (a new non-invasive 3D system) to check how healthy your body really is, and a live cooking demo with Dr. Doug's personal wellness chef that will provide healthy and delicious meal options.

PtboCanada Was There: Peterborough Snofest Opening Ceremonies

The Scroll and Bow Strings Orchestra marked the opening of Peterborough Snofest today with a musical treat. Headed by Lakefield College music teacher John Kraus, they delighted the audience with their festive music.

Master of Ceremonies Catherine Hanrahan (pictured above) introduced many VIPs, including Mayor Daryl Bennett (pictured cutting the ribbon below), MPP Jeff Leal, Councillor Lesley Parnell and Snofest mascot Snofest Pete.

The ribbon cutting ceremony opens a week of events which can be viewed on their calendar, including Sunday's Snofest Idol at 2 p.m. at Showplace (free admission with nonperishable food donation is appreciated) and numerous food and game events throughout the week.

Peterborough Coach Pulls His Team Off Ice After Racial Slur Made Against His Player

[UPDATED] And get this—Greg Walsh, the brave coach who stood up for his player who was the victim of the racial slur in the November 15th game, is indefinitely suspended after having his minor league hockey team walk off the ice in a unified protest. It seems under Hockey Canada rules, a forfeit (a "refusing to start play") means an automatic indefinite suspension for the coach, who could be barred from coaching for up to a year.

The player who made the racial slur? Well he got a three-game suspension and was told to write a letter of apology. The letter of apology still has not been delivered, and the offending player is back on the ice.

How ridiculous is this situation? The coach's suspension should have been overturned immediately by the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA), which is now investigating the matter. And the league—all leagues—should have a zero-tolerance policy against racism.

Explore Peterborough's Hunting & Fishing Heritage Centre

Peterborough is home to the Hunting & Fishing Heritage Centre, which opened in April 2010. With free admission until the end of this year, now is the time to pop in and explore the building.

There are wildlife galleries with actual size animals on display (the polar bear is quite intimidating), an amphitheatre with nature films, an aquarium and touch screen systems to give you more info.

The centre is located at 4601 Guthrie Drive beside the Ontario Federation of Anglers & Hunters building. They are open Tuesday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
